Mr. James is a Principal of Founders Investment Banking with a focus on healthcare related sell-side and buy-side mergers and acquisitions, recapitalizations, and growth financing transactions, in addition to providing corporate and strategic advisory services. Mr. James recently retired from his position as the President and Chief Executive Officer of St. Vincent’s Health System in Birmingham, Alabama. Prior to his role as President and CEO, Mr. James spent 22 years as St. Vincent’s Chief Financial Officer. St. Vincent’s Health System includes five facilities – four acute care hospitals and one health & wellness complex – and currently has over 5,000 employees. Serving the seven county Birmingham MSA population of 1.2 million spread over four counties, St. Vincent’s leads the market with a 21% share and is a member of Ascension Health, the largest non-profit system in the country. Prior to joining St. Vincent’s, Mr. James earned his CPA and spent five years with Ernst & Young, where as part of an audit and tax team he worked with clients specializing in mortgage banking, commercial banking, manufacturing, and healthcare.

Mr. James is a resident of Birmingham, Alabama and holds a B.S. from the University of West Alabama with a double major in Business Administration and Finance and a M.B.A. from Samford University. Mr. James served as a member of the Governor’s Cardiac Task Force and is an advisory board member of Regions Bank. He has served on the boards of United Way, The Boy Scouts, Operation New Birmingham, and the Birmingham Chamber of Commerce. Birmingham Business Journal named Mr. James as one of Birmingham’s Top 100 Healthcare Pioneers, Practitioners and Entrepreneurs in 2002 and Samford University named him Business Alumnus of the Year in 2004, where he was inducted into the Beta Gamma Sigma Honorary. In 2004 the Alabama Information Technology Association named Mr. James the Top Executive in Information Technology. In 2007, Mr. James was named Healthcare Executive of the Year by the Birmingham Business Journal.
